MAPS International High Futsal Tournament 2014: Both Boys and Girls team of Entrepreneurs won the champion trophy

Report by: Mahmoodh Inhal (President of English Club)

Last Saturday marked the end of the MAPS International High Inter-House Futsal Tournament 2014 with a cheerful ceremony at Henveiru Stadium. With the shadow of midterm examinations looming so close, the tournament doubled as a last chance for students to loosen up and relax while also building teamwork and talent. The tournament was overall a success in all the aspects, bringing out more than 80% of the student population to attend all the matches during the weekend.

In the traditional spirit of friendly competitiveness, the three houses – Entrepreneurs, Innovators and Achievers – each brought out a male team of 6 and a female team of 5. The tournament was played out in a group format, with the male teams playing against each other twice, and the female teams once.

Despite (or perhaps even due to) the strong competitive spirit, there was exceptional discipline observed during the tournament as a whole. The Fair Play Team awards went to the Innovators male team and the Achievers female team.

In the group stage, the males had close competition for 2nd place; Innovators and Achievers both had tied at 4 points, Achievers taking the place due to goal difference, while Entrepreneurs had doubled it up and taken first place with 8 points. As for the females, Entrepreneurs breezed through to first place, winning all their matches despite strong competition. Innovators came second with 3 points while Achievers female team had no points.

Finally, in the final matches, the boys originally tied with one goal each, going on to penalty where Entrepreneurs took the gold medals with 4 goals against the Achievers one goal. Meanwhile, after a fierce match the girls at Entrepreneurs took the gold medal, like their counterparts, with 2 goals against the Innovators one goal.

The top 6 male players were ZakarriyyaZuhoor, Ibrahim Shamhaan, Ahmed Abdul Azeez, Ahmed Gaish, Abdulla Muaaz and MoosaMufeedh. On the other hand, girls top 5 were MariyamRooza, Hawwa Reesha, Fathmath Rishfa, MariyamHaneefa and Hawwa DhunyaSaleem. ZakarriyyaZuhoor from Achievers House took both the prizes for top scorer and top player, with 8 goals. The top scorer spot for girls was taken with 6 goals by Hawwa Reesha of Entrepreneurs House. Entrepreneurs also took female top player award through MariyamRooza.

All the awards were handed out in a special ceremony held at Henveiru Stadium, consequently after the final matches on 1st February. The ceremony was attended by the Deputy principal Lawsha Mohamed, vice rector of MAPS college Abdul Azeez and the chief guest MAPS I High former Vice president of PTA Rizna Zareer.
