MAPS International High Students attending ‘High School Students Island Summit on the World Tsunami Awareness Day’ – Okinawa, Japan
Six students and a teacher from MAPS International High are attending ‘High School Students Island Summit on the World Tsunami Awareness Day’ in Okinawa, Japan from 4th-9th November 2017. 140 students from 23 different countries are taking part in the event.
The Summit is about preparing student leaders to create awareness on preventing people and properties during natural disasters like tsunami. Through this summit, high school students will become leaders actively engaged in minimizing the impacts of earthquakes and tsunamis and playing leading roles in the field of disaster risk reduction in their countries.
During the summit, students will have the opportunity to visit tsunami disaster prevention centres and sites. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in Japanese and participating countries’ cultural events. MAPS International High students will also a perform a Maldivian Cultural event during the summit.
